Winnipeg lawyer David Filmon, Q.C., has joined the board of Sio Silica Corporation, an environmentally friendly silica sand producer and supplier headquartered in Calgary.
Sio Silica has become known as the greenest sand mine in the world for its unique extraction and processing activities, which do not entail any truck traffic, surface mining, tunnelling or dust generation. The company’s low-carbon processing facility uses renewable electricity.
“David will play an integral role in Sio Silica’s Development of a silica and silicon industry in Manitoba,” Sio Silica president and CEO Feisal Somji said in a statement.
David joins Sio Silica’s governance and audit committees, bringing his wide-ranging board experience and decades of contributions to the business and legal community to a forward-thinking company growing its presence in Western Canada.
“I join the Sio Silica Board because of my passion for Manitoba and the vision we share of a future silicon industry in Manitoba that will not only put Manitoba on a global stage for decarbonization, but will bring with it hundreds if not thousands of jobs, direct and indirect tax benefits and training and skills development for all Manitobans,” David said.
