On Monday, March 4, 2024, MLT Aikins lawyer Desiree Katz will be presenting to The Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg on Canada’s new trust reporting requirements.
As of December 31, 2023, the federal government has introduced new reporting requirements for trusts. These changes were made as part of Canada’s international commitment to the transparency of beneficial ownership information, as well as its continuous efforts to ensure the effectiveness and integrity of the Canadian tax system.
Desiree’s presentation will provide an overview of the new reporting rules, including filing requirements, exemptions available and penalties for non-compliance. She will lead attendees through various scenarios related to the new reporting rules and provide her thoughts on how to ensure clients are aware of – and compliant with – the Canada Revenue Agency’s new trust reporting requirements.
