MLT Aikins lawyers shine on MBA Young Lawyers’ Section Executive

Lawyer Desiree Katz recently completed her six-year term (2018-2024) with the Young Lawyers’ Section Executive of the Manitoba Bar Association (MBA). At the same time, India Saxberg will be starting her third year serving on the Executive.

Both Desiree and India are based in the firm’s Winnipeg office and are committed to engaging in the province’s legal community.

The MBA is a branch of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). The CBA is the largest professional association for lawyers in Canada, with branches in every province and territory and a national office in Ottawa.

The Young Lawyers’ Section offers advice and assistance to junior MBA members. Members of the Young Lawyers’ Section have access to practical and informative seminars, social events and resources. Members are provided with helpful information, networking opportunities and tips on how to develop and improve their new legal practice. Law students, articling students and lawyers called to the Bar within the last five years are automatically included in this Section with their MBA membership.

Desiree Katz practises in the areas of taxation, corporate/commercial law and wills, trusts and estates. Desiree has extensive experience assisting clients with corporate and personal tax planning, corporate reorganizations, tax-efficient business structuring and succession planning. In July 2023, she completed the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program, enhancing her ability to achieve optimal outcomes for her clients.

India Saxberg practises in the area of corporate/commercial law, with an emphasis on commercial lending, real estate and leasing. India represents financial institutions, private lenders and borrowers in financing transactions. She assists developers, vendors and purchasers with real estate transactions, including development, acquisitions, dispositions and financing. India also advises landlords and tenants on drafting and negotiating leases for properties such as office, industrial, retail and institutional spaces.
