Announced on December 11, 2023, the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital is set to be replaced by a new community health facility in the Town of Beaverlodge, Alberta. The project is a result of a public-private partnership (P3) between the town and Landrex Inc., a land and community development company.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has agreed to lease space in the new facility as the main tenant. The project is in its final stages of planning and design, after completing the functional program last spring.
Led by Aleem Popatia, MLT Aikins was proud to represent Landrex Inc. and Mountview Health Limited Partnership in this partnership transaction.
Aiming to strengthen health care in northwest Alberta, construction of a new, modern 9,000-square-metre facility in Beaverlodge will begin in 2024 to replace the current 67-year-old hospital. The new infrastructure will meet current health facility standards and better support local delivery of more innovative and effective health services.
The services offered by AHS at the new Mountview Health Complex will be integrated into a comprehensive care campus, fostering increased collaboration and improved coordination. Services offered will include outpatient care, ambulance services, inpatient care for serious health issues, community health services and various clinical support services such as imaging, labs, pharmacy and rehabilitation.
Benefiting Alberta’s health system
“We are taking action to improve our health system so Albertans can get the right care when and where they need it most. We need to put patients first and give health providers the right space to properly care for Albertans. I’d like to thank local officials for coming up with a unique approach to get this project underway,” said Adriana LaGrange, Alberta’s Minister of Health.
“We are proud to continue this journey forward in partnership with the Town of Beaverlodge and Alberta Health Services. This is critical infrastructure for the town and the greater community and we are excited to be able to support the town on this journey and be a part of an innovative and new way to provide health care,” said Sophie Baran, president, Landrex Inc.
The Mountview Health Complex will be built on 20 acres of land donated to the town by the McFarlane family. Project design will begin shortly, with construction expected to begin in spring 2024 and the facility anticipated to open in 2028.
