We are pleased to announce that Leighanne Gardipy has joined the firm as an associate lawyer in our Saskatoon office.
Leighanne maintains a broad corporate/commercial practice with a focus on Indigenous matters. She advises governments and organizations on Indigenous governance, corporate governance, Indigenous Trusts, banking and commercial lending, and regulatory compliance.
Before joining MLT Aikins, Leighanne led the legal and compliance functions for a federally regulated Bank and Trust Company. She served as the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer and Corporate Secretary for both the First Nations Bank of Canada and FNB Trust.
Leighanne Gardipy is Cree and was raised on the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ reserve. She obtained her Juris Doctor in 2014 from the University of Saskatchewan and, upon graduation, was elected to the Council for her Nation. After six years in Council, Leighanne articled with the Government of Saskatchewan and was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 2021.
She practised as a solicitor in the Government of Saskatchewan’s Civil Law Division, where she played a key role in the implementation of a co-ordination agreement under An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families, before moving on to FNBC and FNB Trust.
